Hi,
Is there any way to have Plex multicast a video to multiple clients at the same time?
I'd like to set a video playing and be able to walk around the house (between kitchen and living room mainly) and watch the same content. It seems like wasted bandwidth to unicast a stream. It would be good if the requested UDP/RTP video stream sent to each Plex Client around the home was sent via multicast (a separate group per client), and each Plex Client could see which streams were being multicast to other devices and receive them if you chose to. Personally I would just use a single stream, set a video or playlist going in the living room, then go into the kitchen and "tune in" to the stream on the kitchen Roku, or maybe connect upstairs as well on a laptop or tablet and connect to the video same stream. I'm guessing it's not something possible today, but would be a good feature to have.
If not, does anyone know of any other player than can achieve this? I know VLC can act as a multicast server and stream a video to a multicast group. It can also receive a multicast stream. This would only work with devices with the full VLC client. I don't know of any multicast receivers for devices like Roku or Playstation. If anybody has looked into this and knows of anything that can do this please let me know.
Thanks
Karl
