Multiepisode Files no longer properly being parsed by library

Howdy,

I am following the naming convention here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220687-naming-series-season-based-tv-shows/

Naming a file: (i.e.) Stargate SG1 - s01e01-e02 - Children of the Gods.m4v

No matter what I do I can’t get the media parser to see it as two episodes. I have other series that used to do this, but for whatever reason since the latest server update I have not been able to get it to work.

I am running Version 1.10.1.4602 on a Mac.

I have more than enough memory, disk space, etc. What server setting may have I changed inadvertently that would prevent the agents from properly parsing this file name?

I have also tried:
Stargate - s1-e1e2
S01-e01-e02
etc.

Thanks.

Embedded metadata.

Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Then perform the Plex Dance

Alternatively, consider changing it to just s01e01
thereby leaving out e02
Plex will work better that way.

If you let Plex play the episodes back to back with your naming, you will watch episodes 1 and 2 twice.

There is a possibility that you have embedded metadata screwing up your matching. On your server go into settings-agents-shows and move “Local media assets” below “TheTVDB” and rescan your library.

However you may not wish to actually have that one show appear as two episodes because Plex does not know that it is really one episode if it is done that way. If it appears that way and you play ep1 both ep1 and ep2 will play, as would be expected bot only ep1 gets marked as watched. Then, if you play ep2 both eps play again. You can manually mark ep2 watched to overcome that.

If you just have an ep1 then a separate ep3 Plex would play ep1 (which contains ep1 and 2) mark it as watched and then skip to ep3. Plex does not care if episode numbers are missing. It just will play what it sees in correct numerical order.

@OttoKerner beat me to the post by several minutes. That’s what I get for answering a phone call while posting.

Oh well. It is not a competition, much. B) >:) o:)

I think it is something to do with this series specifically. I just tried it with another series and got it to work again.

That makes it even more likely to be embedded metadata messing up the matching. The other file probably does not have metadata embedded in the file.
