Multiparted movies

I have a few movies with more than one part. I placed them in the same folder as ”movie file pt1.mkv”, ”movie file pt2.mkv” and so forth.

Sometimes Plex recognize these files as parts of the same movie and sometimes it doesn’t. If recognized as part of the same movie I can’t split them up. If Plex see then as different editions of the same movie it’s possible to split them (and as I see it, I have to do so to gain access to part 2).

How do Plex distinguish two parts of the same movie to one movie in two editions?

Is there any way I can gain control of this?

Movies which were recognized by Plex as multi-part cannot be split.
The rules to achieve multi-part are explained here https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files#toc-2

All other movies may be recognized as different versions of the same movie. These can be split.

Please provide actual filenames for either case, so we can investigate why it is detected as multi-part or not.

Seems I’d been using random notification for this. Once corrected it works perfectly.
