Multiple Endings to show up for user Selection

Similar questions have been asked, but there is really no answer:

There are 100s of movies that have ‘alternate endings’, or ‘directors cut’ vs ‘theatrical’.
2 examples: ‘I am Legend’ (2 very different endings) or ‘Salt’, (3 different endings)

I currently have these stored like this:

But when I go to watch them, I see this:

Is there any way to get the optional tags (Theatrical, Alternate, etc) to show up on this screen?

Versions as offered by Plex are only used to reflect different quality files of the same movie (not different cuts/editions). As of today, your best shot is to organize those alternate versions as local extras or to keep them as completely independent library items (Split Apart, then rename both to recognize which is which).

There’s two related feature suggestions:

  1. support for multiple cuts/editions of movies → [Implemented] - Multiple Cuts Of Movie
  2. more information in version selector → More Info in "Play Version"

I’m not sure split apart works anymore for scenario like this due to the new modern agents use of matching ids. It’ll just merge them again on the the next library scan. I am however open to correction on that.

One solution is to use separate libraries which would not be ideal but should work.

Thanks!, I saw those, but I was hoping there was a solution.

As @anon5074910 points out below, splitting the does no good. Plex always puts them back together. So far, I’ve not found a way to keep them apart, outside of giving them a totally random name, like with a guid or something. But then the movies can’t be found in a search. :open_mouth:

This is my experience as well. They continuously get put back together every time I split them apart. Plex used to allow me to do that, but as of January, Plex no longer allows that, it puts them back together within 24 hours of splitting them apart.
And if I put a different title on them, Plex will typically put the title back to what it wants, within 24 hours.

I’m on the latest Windows server version (with the new agents) and all of mine are still separated with their different titles. Both versions will show up in continue watching due to having the same id, but they are still separate in my library.

Note: You have to strictly follow the naming rules. Such as: “The Lord of the Rings- The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) - Extended.mkv”
