Multiple OTA service area and EPG Channel Mappings. How to get guide data served by two or more markets?

Hi fellow Plex users! Can anyone suggest a solution to getting a proper guide for an area that is served by 2 different OTA markets? I am in between 2 major cities, so I have multiple channel lineups. Take a look below. Other than the usual channel co-signal interference issues, how can I get all the available channels supported in the guide? As you can see, only about half of them can get onto the EPG, because it doesn’t seem to think certain signals serve my area and refuses to list them. For what it’s worth, the ZIP code is 60064 and is served pretty much by Chicago and Milwaukee markets.

Thanks in advance!
Jeremy

You might try other nearby zip codes that might work better.

That zipcode belongs to the Chicago broadcast market so I’m assuming you only get those channels.

You can get an idea of the mapping looking here. Home - Video Advertising Bureau

You might be able to use that in order to try and find an area right on the border and get lucky enough to get both sets of channels.

Otherwise you have no choice but to piece together your own guide data and then have Plex use that data.

Unlike Emby, Plex only allows one EPG source which makes situations like yours very difficult.
I’m right there with you as my native broadcast area is the Phila market but due to the high gain antennas I build I can also pick up parts of the NY, Baltimore MD and Salisbury MD markets (used for sports).

This was a limitation that was brought up right away in early testing. It’s also an issue for people who have both cable and antennas as they often times need at least 2 providers as well.

Thank for the replies guys. In the meantime, is there a workaround to be able to just drop the EPG data and just use station identification for listing and tuning? (I assume this is where I need to piece my own guide data.) The HDHomeRun box can see and tune to the actual station if I use their provided app.

You can use epg123 to combine guides from multiple sources into one xmltv file, but you need a subscription to Schedules Direct. I have this working on my PC Plex server, but haven’t yet figured out how to get my QNAP NAS server to read the file.

On the PC it works pretty well, but an update from any of the multiple contributors can break it and force you to reconfigure your Plex DVR, so I’m still hoping that Plex fixes this and removes the need for a workaround.

What do you mean by “an update from any of the multiple contributors can break it”? You mean EPG123?
