Windows 10, Plex Server 1.21.0.3711
I just scraped my music library with Plex for the first time, and when I view the libary in my web browser, I find some artists have multiple identically named and artworked folders, with their albums split haphazardly between them. (Yes, the process has completed, and any hope I had that Plex would merge them at the end is dashed.) For example, I have two Sara Bareilles folders and six(!) Yes folders. I maintain my own metadata meticulously with Mp3tag, such that ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST are always populated, always name a single artist, and are always the same for a given album. These are the tags I have in every file:
-
ALBUM -
ALBUMARTIST -
ARTIST -
GENRE -
TITLE -
TRACK -
YEAR
Multi-disc albums also have disc numbers. Classical music has the composer. There are a few other special cases, but the ones above are the universal ones. The folder structure on my hard drive is divided between Lossy/Lossless folders, then Artist/Album beneath them. The Plex library folder division doesn’t follow this Lossy/Lossless partition; that is, lossy and lossless albums can appear together under a single Plex folder, and besides, I have six(!) Yes folders like I said. I have the Plex library set to “Prefer local metadata.”
iTunes handles my library correctly. I do not have the Plex iTunes plugin enabled, so Plex got all its info on its own, nothing from iTunes. Any idea what’s going on here?
