I would like to set up an additional Plex server on my LAN to offset some of the load that my main server is under. I cant seem to get it to work tho and I believe this may be limited to my current setup. I am running my main Plex install from a QNAP NAS but I have two Nvidia Shields that I would also like to use the server function on.
Is this possible given the lack of server interface on the Shield?
I run a Plex server on my Synology NAS, and another on a Windows 10 box dedicated to the purpose. My NAS is older, and can’t transcode HD files when necessary, so I set up the other box. They work seamlessly together for me. I can select which one I want to play from in the plex app interface. All my video files are hosted on the NAS, so even if it isn’t playing the files through Plex, it is still serving them to the Windows Plex server.
Yes, you can run multiple Plex servers on the same network. I used to run 2 video servers and 1 music server, currently running 1 video and 1 music server.
The only issue is that your watched status cannot be shared between the two, if you watch something on one it will not show as watched on the other (AFAIK, it did not do it when I ran 2 video servers).
If you are looking to use a Shield the Shield sub-forum would proably get you faster answers about setting it up.
