I rollback to a previous version of PMS 1.41.6.9685-d301f511a when I thought everything was working fine but they still were having issues. I since upgraded back to most recent version and it doesn’t work for them. I have the lifetime plex pass on my server so I wouldn’t think it would be a plex pass issue from them because they should be able to stream from any device since I have plex pass, correct?
This is becoming frustrating as this has never been an issue in the past and why are they are able to see my libraries from their phone but not from other devices?
It is more than 5 users having this same problem.
Please assist.
I’m having this issue after upgrading to 1.42 as well. Can play through browser but iOS device and Apple TV cannot connect to the server.
I am thinking they are able to see on their phones because they all got the remote watch pass initially months ago when they signed up to Plex. For whatever reason now, and its been going on for a few weeks now, their other devices lose connection to my server and can’t see my libraries and the only way they could see is if I reset my server. Now, resetting the server doesn’t even work for them on the other devices.
I realized last night that this is only an issue on my local network. When not connected to my local network the apps didn’t have any problem.
That led me to realize I had recently configured a new domain name for plex on my local network. But it was not exposed in the plex settings “Custom server access URLs”. I’m not sure exactly why this breaks apps, the server is still available using the IP and port like it always has been. But adding my internal domain name to that list solved the issue for me.
See, all of my friends and family are not connecting through my local network, its all external. I think our issues are not similar…..which sucks because I was hoping to have someone with similar issues to bounce different ideas around
I am glad yours is fixed though….hahaha
So, I downgraded back to 1.41.4.9463-630c9f557, the update from February and now my users are able to see my libraries again from all of their devices. This suggests to me that its not a Plex Pass issue, or a Plex config issue or anything except something is broken from the last couple of upgrades since March or April.
I finally figured out the issue…and as my gut kept telling me, it turned out to be something simple given all the symptoms.
The root cause was that I was using my Plex Media Server plex token to authenticate another app with Plex. Every time I started the other app, it would collide with my PMS session/auth state and basically crash PMS.
The fix was simple…I generated a brand-new plex token specifically for that other app.
That worked, but it never occurred to me that each device/app needs its own plex token. And if ya like me and grabbed another device’s plex token, you can’t have that other device and PMS running at the same time…haha
But lesson learned…I can (and should) manually create or generate unique plex tokens for each device or app when needed.
