Music agents settings to avoid matching

Hi all,

My Plex has recently gone mad with music data matching. It’s weird as 98% of my collection is just the same it used to be when it wasn’t running its matching feature that extensively. My collection contains a lot of local niche releases and a bunch of bootlegs that Plex has apparently trouble finding. But I actually DON’T expect it to find it. I’m perfectly happy for Plex to base on my own metadata only, I don’t need its additions on artist profile, concerts etc.

Obviously I have the “Prefer local metadata” option checked in the Advanced library settings, hence I attribute this behavior to scanner/agent chosen.

I’ve tried different settings with music agents but somehow I can’t find the one that would only consider local assets tag. Can you tell me:

  • which scanner I should choose (Plex Music or Plex Music Scanner)?
  • which agent I should choose (Plex Music or Personal Media Artists)?

I’ve read the help file but they don’t elaborate on this specifically…

You could try unplugging your network cable and running your library scan without an internet connection, that at least should prevent any unwanted matching with Musicbrainz, last.fm or Allmusic.
