Music Albulm is not being detected!?!?

Long time Plex user, even longer Linux user.
On a recent install, a dedicated Plex Music Server, I noticed at least one album that is not being detected at all, and no amount of finessing will get it to. I don’t know if there are others as of now.

The file structure is:

> <Artist Name>
> <Album Name (year)>
> <Album Name (year)>

I add the Plex user to the group of server admin so I can ssh into the server and do maintenance, and copy files over with “scp” without having to do any permission changes with “chown” and “chmod”. Speaking of which the files are set to permissions “777”, because when the were set to 644, about 120 Artistes weren’t discovered the first time.

The server is a Pi running Raspbian, with and 2TB external hard drive, mount to the “/mnt/Music” which is set in the fstab set to default mount.

So as you can see the two folders has the exact same users, and permissions but one is detected and imported while the other is not.

I do see and error in the logs, but nothing specific, not even sure if it pertains to this problem. Only have the timestamp to narrow it down, meaning it is dated today, but not sure if it it happen when I did the scan. But if I re-run the scan, another error does not show up so… I don’t know.

Feb 15, 2020 17:47:43.053 [0x5a9f9450] ERROR - Unknown metadata type: folder

So I downloaded the logs, then clear the console, ran a “Scan Library Files” again, and again I got same lone error, “Unknown metadata type: folder”.
Don’t know if it is the same folder, or another one.

Any help would be appreciated. Tomorrow I will try and see if there are any other folders that are missing, as well as checking the metadata on the two folder, to give any credence to the error message. I know for a fact though I verified all the meta tags on all the files with EasyTAG before copying them to the external drive.

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368

I checked the meta tags on the album that won’t display, and there was one song/file that had no meta tag, but otherwise the all had the correct information and that.

The more frustrating part is I can’t not reproduce the error I got earlier. " Unknown metadata type: folder". No way, shape or form. Any sequence of analysis, scan, what have you that produces that error. Which at the time was the only error I had, vague as it is.

What I was hoping was to “scan” or whatever, get the error again, then delete the folder in question, the “scan” again. This would validate that it is this folder causing the error, as well as confirm it is because of this error the Album is not showing up. But as I can’t reproduce the error, no way to be sure.

I did look at the other logs quickly as well, and could not see any error, when I did a “find error”

So I am at a lost here.

Ok… well problem is solved… sort of.

I hate situations like this. I got it fixed, but with no real explanation as to why, or how it happened in the first place. So if someone else has a similar problem and stumble upon this post, they won’t really get any answers.

To start, everything was done correctly, double checked all the setting , permissions, and tags. Everything was correct.

So how I came to the realization that something was not working correctly, by chance I went in under one Artist, and I noticed there was an Album missing. No rhyme or reason. Do what I might could not discover why. I happened to be in the “Various Artist” Section. I have all my OST for my kids movies in a folder labeled “Soundtracks” and the Album Artist tag for is set to “Various Artist” since that is what they are. Anyways, the one Muse album was showing up in there, under Various Artist, even though the tags for the specific Album is set to “Muse”. I simply edited the entry from the edit pop-up window, and it was moved out of “Various Artist” to the “Muse” artist.

So in short it was a simple error cause while the “scan library”, and 1 (that I know of) out of 371 unique artist is not bad odds, but the lack of an explanation for future users still is unsettling.
