Music library not detecting files

Server Version#: 1.108.1.307-dd5b87aa

Everything has been working fine when adding new music and hitting “Scan Library Files” in my music section of the plex app except for this one particular album. I’ve tried renaming the folder and trying again multiple times but it simply isn’t detecting it for some strange reason. There’s nothing wrong with the audio files as they play fine when using VLC and other apps. I tried adding other files and they detect fine, but with this particular folder, it’s not working. Any ideas?

The path looks like this on my synology NAS to the album that’s not being detected:

\x.x.x.x\music\Exposé\Exposure - Deluxe Edition

What kind of files are they?

They are AAC MP4. Extension is .m4a. Most of the music in my library is in this format and I never have any problems with scanning. Just only this album is giving me problems and I’m unsure why.

Thanks, just making sure. Sometimes that’s the answer.

I would start by trying to verify the file permissions. If you did everything the same as usual it’s unlikely, but at this point you should check the unlikely stuff too.

I’d add the date to the album folder name and double check that the tags are set correctly, especially Album Artist.

You can also try adding the MusicBrainz release ID tag.

I am suspicious of the accented character in the folder name, too. It shouldn’t be a problem, but I think Plex has had related bugs in the past. Do you have other Exposé albums that work OK? If this is your only album, try changing the directory name to Expose and see what happens.

Yes I also have other Expose albums and they were detected without any problems. Let me show you a screenshot so you can get a better idea. The folder that won’t scan is “Exposure - Deluxe Edition”

You might try making the Album just “Exposure (Deluxe Edition)” without the disc numbers. Put the disc numbers in their reserved field. Each disc having a different Album tag may be a problem.

I wonder if this is the same issue as Plex Files Unavailable but they’re not missing

I just encountered this exact problem today. My Music library has three MP3 files in it. The two old ones are found, but the newest one from this weekend was not. I discovered that editing the metadata fields fixed it; not sure which field triggered the scanner to find it. Maybe Artist? Or Contributing Artist? So now I know: when exporting a new mp3 track from Audacity, don’t skip the “fill in the metadata” step.
