Music Files Not Found in Scan

Server Version#: 1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c
Player Version#: Plexamp 3.3.1

HELP: I recently added an album folder to my music collection that scanning simply will NOT find and add to my collection. The odd thing is it is from a source I have used before, the files are all properly tagged and sorted in a sub-folder like other albums by this artist. I am just well and truly stumped. FWIW, I have looked over the other forum discussions on similar topics to try all of those steps, and none have helped. I even checked the file permissions. Anyone else experiencing this?

UPDATE: I was able to find the log showing it attempting to add this album. I’m not proficient in understanding what any of this means…is there a clue here somewhere? I appreciate any assistance!

Can you identify the album? It would make it easier to find the relevant log entries.

Screenshots of the folder (file manager) and the embedded tags might also be helpful.

Is your system fully configured to prefer local metadata?

Thanks for the response and help, @beckfield!

The album is the Amateur Original Score by Hal Hartley, available from his site here.

I did not have the ā€œPrefer Local Metadataā€ option checked, but just turned it on.

Here are screenshots of folder in file manager, and the embedded tags.

Bump. Any thoughts @beckfield or anyone else? This album just will NOT show up in my server library. Thanks for any assistance!

Looking through the log file (I’m not extremely adept at this, but I think I found something), it appears that Plex is looking for the album in a folder named
D:\Music\Hal Hartley\Amateur - Original Score MP3
while your screenshot shows it is in
D:\Music\Hal Hartley\Amateur Original Score

Can you edit your Library and take a screenshot of the ā€˜Add folders’ page?

Thank you, @beckfield! I changed the name of that folder (weird…that’s not even the original name of the folder which I changed when it initially failed to add the album to the Plex library). Here is a screenshot of my music folder settings:

I keep all music in that one folder. Should I not have it like this for Plex?

No, you have it right. I was worried that you were pointing directly to the album folder itself, and had it wrong.

I take it Plex has no trouble with the other Hartley albums?

I’m about out of ideas. One thing left is to try to clear out any bad information that Plex may be holding onto, and trying again. Please follow this procedure and see what happens:

Again, thanks @beckfield ! Glad to know I have this set up properly, at least.

As I was writing this, I was playing around and I found it! Here is what seems to have happened: I have an older, different version of that album already in my collection. Apparently, when it first got added, Plex used the older album’s metadata and it was basically ā€œhiddenā€ from my searches because it showed up as the old album. I saw it twice on this search, went in, and refreshed the metadata and (since you told me to turn on local metadata), it saw that, changed it, and now it shows up! WHEW. Thank you soooo much, @beckfield !
