Oh hope it does not do any automatic… while there is a lot of albums checking them one by one is NOT the method I prefer to use… thus: hope it does not anymore use any automagic when there is selection with “use local” as it did quite a while ago with my music library even when it was told to use local… (but that was quite a while ago, I think pretty soon after new scanner came, so maybe it’s now behaving better).
But this takes quite a while until I see how this works now with Plex Music scanner (really rename that legacy one, no-one sees confusion on names? )
Ok, some update to information. With Plex Music selected as scanner (and agent) it works, but only when for Album Art selection is “Both Plex Music and Local Files”, if selection is only local files, same bug. So there is something wrong with handling local metadata only setting… and it broke on last server beta update for Plex pass users…
I see what I think is a a related problem… despite using the Plex Music scanner, many albums had selected a black frame for art despite there being a cover image in the mp3 tag.
Sometimes, if I edited the album, an appropriate poster was offered – just not selected, the black square had priority. Sometimes, I had to Fix Match. (And the first search result was correct – so why didn’t it work automatically? I started a thread about that.) Sometimes, I had to Unmatch to get Plex to pick an image. And sometimes, despite the album having art in the tags, Plex would only offer the black square and I had to put in a new image URL.
Just wanted to add that I’m currently having the same issue as OP and I’m on the same version. Also, in addition to my covers not loading during scan, it doesn’t import the date either. My covers are actually embedded within the file, and I have to manually select it and change the date myself within Plex.
I am having the very same issue. Date and Album art not loaded when “prefer local metadata” and Album Art set to “Only local files”, despite the date metadata is there and and album art is both embedded and as a folder.jpg file within the album folder.
Confirmed, I have an m4b audiobook with embeded cover art, long description, chapters and other metadate, they were all read once i reverted back to “Plex Music” and set “Both Plex and Local Files” option.
