Music Album Cover

Hi,

all my files contain album covers.
Plex has added new covers in the database.
Inside the plexamp app these new covers are shown while playback.
I can manually edit each album with the pencil icon and the original album cover that I added to the metadata of the file is available, by scrolling left.

Question;
How do I configure plex to use my original metadata covers with priority?
Alternative, how can I disable the funktion of “autocover”

Thank you Regards
Bodo

Edit the library, go to the Advanced tab.
Scroll down.
Set Album Art to “Local Files Only”.

Ensure that the folder which contains the album(s) does NOT contain any graphics files with small sizes/low resolutions.
If this is an old collection which has been “touched” at one point by Windows Media Player and its relatives, verify again after enabling the display of “hidden” and “System” files.

If you value good album art, I recommend you to place a high resolution cover.jpg in each album folder. This can be larger than what one would reasonably embed into audio files.

The above change might only affect newly added albums.
Or at least it requires you to Refresh Metadata on the existing albums.
It might not show any change in the album art, if you have already selected another cover art manually in Plex.

Awesome, thank you!

PN: I have all covers direct inside the meta data of uncompressed AIF files.

here are screenshots for future reference:

I don’t think Plex can read metadata from AIFF files (or WAV for that matter). You might want to switch to ALAC or FLAC.

(disable “Abspielposition speichern”. You only want that be enabled in libraries for audio books or whole concerts in one file.)

If Plex can not read the metadata from AIF, it is overall the wrong solution.
I test it, right now its updating metadata and database.

One more question:
Plex have write access to my files, please confirm, that plex is never updating my files itself and only its database entries, correct?

I use Abspielposition speichern for mixtapes and live recordings, I´m glad I have found this after your tipp

Correct.
But it might be able to delete your files, if you have enabled “Allow media deletion” under Settings - Server - ‘Show Advanced’ - Library
Better verify and disable it. Or run the server under a different user account which has only “read”-privileges to your media files.

You migth want to put these into a separate library. Because if you enable it, it will also affect tracks of regular length.

Hi Otto,

good news for the embedded covers in the AIF, it works!

Unfortunately the Plexignore file does not work.
Here is what I did place in the root of “\CD”:

After it I run:

  1. update meta data
  2. mediathek daten einlesen

Any ideas what I did wrong?

my bad, I missed the “.”
I have Updated the file:

MP3-Dateien ignorieren

*.mp3

M4A-Dateien ignorieren

*.m4a

The I crosschedck that there is no .txt extension, this is the filename
.plexignore

Then I stoped the plex server on the NAS and deleted both caches, and restarted the server.
unfortunaltely it does not work.

Any ideas?
