Music artist query

Hi all. I am sick of my mismatched music collect in different formats/bit rates and quality. I have decided to re-rip my audio collection from cd to FLAC using EAC being careful to tag things correctly and ensure that things are good going forwards.

I have ripped a compilation album of various artists, If I look at the properties of the file I create in file explorer the audio properties show the artist as, in this example, “air” and everything looks as it should.

If I look in Plex and sort by artists it is in a various artists folder, then when I drill into the album the artist is shown along with the title. Is there something I can do to change this?

I have done the Plex Dance as described on another forum post, I have also changed the agent in settings to be local media.

Since I am going to the hassle of redoing everything I’d rather get it right and not have to do it again in the future. Any help would be appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like Plex is doing exactly what it is designed to do, and there’s nothing you can do to change it. There are a few feature requests for improving how Plex treats Various Artist albums. This one, for example, sounds like what you might be looking for. The best thing you can do at this point as add your vote for the feature request.

Oh ok, so if I sort by artist, it will not sort by artist but album artist? If that’s by design then so be it. I had hoped that if I sort by artist I would get all artists regardless if the album is a various artists album.
I’ll check those threads in a bit when I get back home.

Yeah, that’s pretty much the state of it. Plex currently doesn’t make ‘track artist’ a priority. Another feature request you might be interested in is this:
ID3 Tag support for ROBUST music library organization
At least some of the changes in that request would have to be done in order to do what you want.

OK, we’ll that explains it. Thanks for your help. I’ll carry on as I was and see what happens in the future. I’ll take a look at those other posts.
