I have been using Plex for a couple of years now. Quite some time ago i added two music categories - that have their own physical folders on my NAS - and noticed something odd. The standard categories Movies and TV are updated automatically - as configured - as soon as i add new media files. But the music categories are not. I have the standard music category and two custom ones. I always have to push a manual scan to get them updated in the library.
Is there a setting i didn’t find yet or is music and all custom categories just exempt from some of the general library settings?
No idea/hint at all?
Ok sounds like its folders not categories.
Can you post your server logs?
Which specfic log - i downloaded the zip file - do you need? Or which information in particular? I don’t want to share my complete library or personal information like e-mail and so on. Thanks!
You can check the Plex Media Server.log and its 5 numbered „predecessors“ for lines with an ERROR - label.
That being said… from what you describe, it sounds like DSM might no longer trigger file system notifications for the folders in question. This can happen if the number of folders monitored by the system exceed a system threshold.
I have modified the value. No change regarding scanning for the moment, but i will keep an eye on it. Is there a way to check, if the value has been changed after running the task and the restart of my NAS?
I can now confirm, that scanning is working, as soon as i add music to one of my music folders. Since the only thing i changed was the value on the NAS, i will mark your answer as the solution.
