This thought hit me today when I added some new music by an artist for whom I already had another track in my library.
I scanned my music again and ended up clicking through to the artist page from the “Recently Added” section in Recommended and only saw the one album/track that I knew I had just added.
I was confused for a brief moment because I was positive I had at least one other track by this artist. Then I went to the search bar just to make sure I wasn’t remembering incorrectly; sure enough when I typed in the artist name, the track I was looking for came back in the results.
It then came back to me that this other track was released on a compilation album with multiple artists, so it did make sense why it wasn’t listed under an album on the artist page. It shows up on the “Various Artists” artist page.
But my question is… wouldn’t it be reasonable to add a section in the artist page called “Featured On Album(s)” / “Appears On Album(s)” or something to that effect, which enumerates any albums for which this artist is not the album artist, but is the artist of one or more tracks on the album?
I figured the best place to display this would be either above or below the “Similar Artists” header in Plex Web and under the “Popular Tracks” list in Plexamp. Maybe the UI designers feel this would make the artist page too “busy” - but at least to me, it would be really useful. Wondering if anyone else would be in favor of having this feature available.
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I assume it is more relevant to the interfaces of the players than the server software, since all of the metadata that would be required to display this is already available.
Thanks for reading.
