Hi,
Has anybody got any tips on Plex listing music properly?
Its a bloody nightmare.
I’ve added my music folder from my Synology DS, where the server is located also. But I end up with 95 unknown artist albums, many mixed up with various songs stuck together in an incorrect album. It’s absolutely crazy.
All the music in the folder has been meticulously correctly tagged, which took a very long time.
Also it is a direct copy of the music folder I have on another computer which perfectly categorises the music in 2 other audio players on the Mac.
So I have no idea why Plex can’t read the correctly labelled embedded metadata properly.
Please help, renaming 95 unknown artist albums, with many just mixed up tracks, is ludicrous.
Why can’t Plex just read the embedded metadata like every other audio player I’ve used, iTunes, Audirvana, Amarra etc, they have absolutely no problem organising and labelling the metadata in my music folder properly?
Update the ID3 tag ‘Album Artist’ with the correct artist.
Delete and rebuild your Library for that item.
Thanks, but I have already spent very long time correcting all the meta data with excellent app called Yate, costs couple of quid but very comprehensive.
Every album and track has a correctly labelled “album Artist” already. I have a little OCD (or do things properly) problem, so made sure everything was labelled correctly.
The library is massive however, I don’t know if Plex has a problem with massive libraries?
To be honest, it looks more like it’s looking at the artist label, as some albums with a couple artist collaborations tracks but the same album artist, are listed as different artists.
It just looks like Plex isn’t reading the meta data properly, which I can guarantee is correctly labelled as every other software I use that reads that library folder catalogues it perfectly.

If you have already all your files meticulously tagged, then you need to tell that to Plex.
(Please double check that your ‘Album Title’ tags do not contain “Disc 1” etc when it is a multi-disc album)
Edit your music library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
check ‘Use embedded tags’
then go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums - Premium Music / last.fm
pull the line ‘Local Media Assets’ all the way upwards, so it becomes the topmost item
Then perform the Plex Dance “light” (omit step 4)
with all the problematic albums
