Music library failing to group albums regardless of what i try?

Ok after almost two days of trying i have had to admit defeat and ask on here.

So my issue is that i wanted to upload a digital backup of a group of various artist albums.

Everything i try plex lists 90% of the tracks individually. As its 86 albums worth most double cd’s , thats thousands of tracks.

I have tried changing the the id3tags with mp3tag
my file tree is as per instructions in the plex tutorial… i’m pulling my hair out with this.

If i upload a single album it will sometimes group the album after i change it various artist and lock the album title. But it will never find the album art and quite often give the album a name of one of the artists that i cannot change?? like an example here it will name album artist snowey white although it clearly says various in the box.

my film library ive had no issues with for years. i thought having a few days spare id try to sort my music library.

can anybody think of somthing i’m missing. my file tree on my computer is spot on. i would have thought it woukd have picked it the albums up easy.

Music scanner has numorous issues. It’s still be worked on last I heard.

Short version here: Various Artists albums tagged as different random Library Artist

Additionally: make sure all tracks in that album have a track number tagged.
If the album has multiple discs, the disc number must be tagged as well.

I have sorted it now. I listed the uploaded albums via Folders in the drop down menu then i went in to each album folder and adjusted the album artist, disk number and so on.

Then went did a search for the album manually matched the album and added art. Only took about 4 hours…

what else are you gonna do during lockdown ?

I have the issue where I am adding a mix cd but it’s listing all the songs separately. Is there an example of how to setup up Idtags to have plex group it properly? I also don’t want the album name listed as various artist if possible. Thanks

You will have to decide on an artist name under which the album shall appear.
It cannot appear under all artists who are present on this album.
It doesn’t have to be “Various Artists”, but it as to be one one common AlbumArtist name for all tracks of that album.
Make sure to embed meta tags for the “track number” as well.
