Music Library Settings

Hello everyone, I’m looking for some guidance or at least a straight answer.

Basically, can I view music on Plex without any album information?

For example, let’s say I have 3 album CD’s from the same artist, but I only like 1 song from each album. I upload those 3 songs into my library called ‘Music’. What I would like to be able to do is go into the library on my TV, which is filtered by ‘All Artists’, click on an artist and then see these 3 songs listed and ready to play. Instead, I see 3 albums and have to go into each one individually to choose a song.

I have tried clearing all metadata on the files apart from the artist and song title, before adding it to the library, and I have deselected all album agents (that I was allowed to) from the server agent album settings, but the songs are then just added to an ‘unknown album’.

I can change the filter on the TV to ‘All Albums’, give the album a name of ‘Various’ and upload a fancy picture for it, and I can then see all the songs listed in one place, but just wondering if I have missed something. I like the ‘All Artist’ view with the little description about them, but if it is not possible without having to open each album up individually then I’ll carry on as I am.

hi. how about making up playlists of your favorite songs, and playing those instead?

The Playlist is probably the best idea. You also have the option of viewing your library in All Tracks mode. But that displays your entire library as a list of tracks. You can then use the custom filter to find a particular artist.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I do plan on using playlists once I’ve uploaded all my music collection, which will consist of 1000’s of songs from 100’s of artists spanning 6 decades. I plan to eventually have a 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc playlist that I can use to play all or shuffle.

Sometimes though I will just want to browse all artists and pick one to play, and hoped I could do this without first changing view and then using the filter. I think I’ve cracked it though, everything will go in with album metadata set to various, which you can change on mass within Windows explorer. Then in albums view I can add custom covers and backgrounds and make it look nice, and when choosing one particular artist all their songs will be available to play in one place.

Cheers

how wonderful, enjoy
