Music (mostly) doesn't play on any player

Plex used to work well a few months ago, and it still does well with pictures and home videos, but music playback mostly hasn’t worked for some time now. The failure is consistent on players for Roku, Android, and Windows.

Rarely, I can play all songs from a server-stored ripped (from CD) album. Mostly, either none of the songs from a particular album play at all; or the first song plays, but none of the following songs play. In either case, I get an error with choices of “skip” or “retry,” neither of which work. I don’t see any correlation for songs that work or don’t work; they are all stored as normal MP3 files.

I am frustrated and would like to get things working again.

By the way, other applications, like VLC, play the MP3 files just fine.
