Hi All,
Is there still no way for Plex to use the genre from MP3 ID3 tags?
Looks like there is no way for Plex to use the rating from these tags either.

FYI - If you disable pulling genre data from last.fm, the filter by Genre works only if you have your Type set to Album, not Artist or Track.
Since Artist is the default when you click on your Music library, it just appears that Genre is empty. imo they should remove that filter option when the last.fm option is deselected as well, to avoid confusion (or find a way to fix it so that Genre from id3 does work when in Artist view.)

This should definitely be fixed.
Thanks for the tip.
Thanks Ninja6o4 for the tip.
Wow. This is bad. As much as I try to like Plex, designs like this have me constantly looking for alternatives.
I agree. Plex was never originally intended as a music streaming app, so it definitely feels "kludgy" in this area. Besides this somewhat minor UI issue, there is also no mechanism for playlist importing and sharing with friends, or any sort of Spotify/Pandora-like intelligence that makes better use of your library based on individual taste.
This should definitely be fixed.
Thanks for the tip.

Is anywhere tools/settings for ID3 multi-tags support? I write genres as "Rock; Metal; Doom Metal", it helps to use custom playlist in some players. But plex copies ID3 genre tags as whole string with single tag. I want to have few tags e.g. "Rock", "Metal" and "Doom Metal". There are correct multi-tags for last.fm only.

It works if you tweak some file (audiohelper.py or similiar). Just search the forum. This is a temporary fix though.
Plex seems to expect "/" instead of ";" for multi-tags ...
Thx, I found the topic about it
Any updates to this? I have Genre in all my imported Mp3. It pulls some of them into Artist genre and others into album genre. Others that have Genre listed do not get imported. What are the specificaitons on where plex pulls the genre and when to put it on artist or album? What is the specific conditions on what imports where and why? I was using this in poweramp on phone to keep playlists embedded in mp3 tags for easy syncing. Now I am trying to fumble with creating playlists and importing into plex, whenever my library gets updated. Seems like a hassle.
