Music Smart Playlists don't work

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2468
Player Version#: All, mobile and desktop

I created a smart playlist to show the lastest 100 tracks that were added.

When I view the playlist, it looks accurate, but when I hit shuffle, it will play any music from the library, not just what’s on the playlist.

Likewise, if I sync it to my phone, when I look at the playlist it shows all the albums on my phone, not just the ones I synced over.

I even added a line to limit it to only tracks added in the last 6 months with no change.

That’s not a playlist, that’s just a filter. Anyways, I’m not able to recreate the problem. It works fine for me. I created a list that resulted in 64 tracks, then hit shuffle. Checking the resulting play queue shows 64 tracks in the list.

That’s the filter I used to create the smart playlist.

Use that filter to create a playlist and hit shuffle.

The playlist looks correct, but the it doesnt play from the smart playlist if you shuffle.

Still working for me. Here it is as a playlist.

Hit shuffle then call up the play queue.

Here is the filter for the playlist I created

I add it to a playlist, then hit go to the playlist and hit shuffle

As you can see, it’s playing the theme song for the Pary Boy character from Jackass, which is not anywhere near being one of the 10 most recent tracks added, and is not a part of the playlist I created.

The playlist appears to be correct.

If I hit “play” it will play the songs in the playlist without issue.

It’s when i hit shuffle that it suddenly ignores the filter that created the playlist and shuffles my entire library.

I tried again placing a limit and it still works right for me.

Hmm. Somethings not right from your screenshot. No way those 10 songs make up 82 minutes.

Can you just play the playlist, not shuffle. Then call up the play queue and see what it shows.

If I just hit play, the play queue looks good.

It’s everything else about it that gets weird.

When I hit shuffle, it pulls in what appears to be the same group of songs each time. I screwed up the tags on a series of albums and haven’t gotten around to fixing them yet. Some of them are random songs in the root of my music directory, others are improperly tagged with no album name and the wrong artist. I wouldn’t think those would matter in this case however.

When I sync, if I take the default option of limiting it to 50 items, it appears be syncing 50 tracks, with 40 additional songs that aren’t a part of the list, but at least they do appear to be the 50 latest tracks I’ve added to the server

If I go to the actual playlist on my phone, it may actually be showing the 10 latest tracks on my phone. It’s still syncing all 50 tracks at the moment however, so it may be another few minutes before I can confirm exactly what it shows.

Does the queue also show 82 minutes? Those 10 songs don’t add up to 82, so something is wrong.

Yes, that is correct. It should be shuffling the same 10 songs just in a different order, at least until you add more media to change the result of your filter.

Those shouldn’t matter. It should only by shuffling the 10 songs that show in the list. Doesn’t matter how they are organized.

Yup I can reproduce that. I think this might be intentional, I’ll have to check. My theory is that since this was meant to be a smart list, it is using the sync limit to determine how many to d/l so that it can then apply the playlist limit. If i play the synced playlist, I get the correct/same as when playing the original. If I look at the d/l’d music library, I see the number of sync limit files.

Sorry, this was my bad for editing my reply and not re-reading it. When I hit shuffle, it plays 10 songs that are not on the playlist, but it’s always the same 10 songs.

Oh, that’s definitely weird. Can you replay the playlist (normal) using Plex Web? Let it play for about 10-20 seconds. Hit stop. Then play gain hitting shuffle. Get me the logs from PMS.

Sure, I’ll grab them when I get home

Or if you don’t mind sharing your music library with me, I can try to reproduce on my end and see what’s going on.

I can do that.

Do I share it with MovieFan.Plex, or is there another account I should use?

yup, moviefan.plex will do

Invite should be waiting for you

Ok, I was able to reproduce your issue. This is weird. I’ll have to do some checking and get back to you.

Thanks.

Let me know if there is anything else you need from my end

In an effort to clean up my tags and file names. I have also just deleted my old Music library, created a new one, and am moving songs to it as I fix them.

The same issues persists in the new library as well.
