It would also be nice to be able to make (smart) playlists from the Library Manager so you can make large collections a bit more managable.

That should probably be a different request as that doesn't help with our local collections, which is what we're trying to get.

As with most of the features I’ve wanted for a very long time, I haven’t seen any of the functionality added to the client. So what I have done that works well enough for now is to make a movie section that uses the Plex Video Files Scanner and Personal Media metadata agent. This way it basically finds nothing, but quickly. I have to go through and change every single video’s metadata myself, but I set it up so that the name of the video is just the name of the song and so that it’s also alphabetized the same. Then I make collections for every single artist and add them in that way and access all of the videos by going to collections. It’s a backwards way of doing it with quite a bit of input to do, but it works well enough, until someone can actually add this feature.

Hey I just made a discovery you're going to like. Go into the media manager and create a new music section and point it to your music videos. It will scan and not find anything as its looking for music files. Now edit the section and change it to movies and personal media. Update the section and it will now find the files. In PLEX when you select this section the menu will come up as if it was a music section. If you hold menu on the artists it will bring up the shuffle option and will randomly play the videos. I know this is not perfect but it works till we have a real music video choice, and hopefully new versions won't break this until we do (hint, hint devs.)

When I try to edit the section there is not a option to change the section type. do i delete the section and make a new one? i am using plex 0.9.8.6.175.   what am i doing wrong?

I'd like to see this also in a heirarchal view so that you could view:

- Band

   - Album

      - Video

or by genre (similar to ID3 tags).  Right now, I am just managing my video section like any other video section, but if I have a lot from one band, I will see a lot of entries from that band before the next since they are not going under a general heading of that band and then their videos.

I think this should be a feature of Plex so much that I tried to set a new Library as Music Videos, but I couldn't find it. I then thought I was going crazy. Finally a search led me here.
