I would love the ability to include music videos in my music library and have them intermixed as well (and listed under “Music Videos” on the artist page). iTunes let’s you have them integrated to your music library so I’d love to see this supported as well.
Is this generally for Plex or specifically for Plexamp?
Because Plexamp has no video support at all. It is quite unlikely it will gain it.
As for music videos in Plex, this is already possible:
And here’s a description how it’s done
I actually didn’t know that was possible
But also a suggestion for integration into Plexamp in the future
Also I was just following that and I can’t seem to get it to work in either configuration
Wow! Thanks so much for that @OttoKerner and @tom80H, I had no idea!
I just tried and it worked for me. I’ll be able to delete the additional library I had just for music videos.
It seems to be very picky with the names of the video files.
So I was able to get global config to work, but I didn’t like how it looked, so I undid that and moved the file to the album’s folder (hoping to get the camera icon) but now I’m stuck with this and it’s less than aesthetically pleasing.
(Under Attack is the best ABBA song, don’t @ me.)
You mean the “Extras” row after the albums? Yeah, that’s how it looks for me too. I think it’s alright, it looks the same as when there are extras in movies and TV shows libraries.
Yeah but I’m still not getting the TV icon next to the actual song.
Also I wish the extras row was below the compilations dafkj;dkfj
I think that to make the TV icon appear, the name of the video file needs to be the EXACT SAME as the name of the audio file (followed by the video type).
In the screenshot you posted, the video file is named “12. - Under Attack-video” and the audio file is named “12. Under Attack”. There’s an extra hyphen at the beginning, so I guess that’s why there’s no TV icon next to its name in Plex.
But from what I can see, the TV icon doesn’t do anything much. It just tells you there’s a video about this track somewhere in the Extras.
That was it. Mostly excited about this feature so I can make a bit of a curated MTV
Also interestingly enough:
I have the music video for Believe by Cher. But the only place I have the song is from the “Totally Hits” compilation (similar to Now That’s what I Call Music).
Totally Hits is filed under Various Artists.
Now the icon appears next to the track, but the music video will not appear under extras under Various Artists or on Cher’s artist page.
@OttoKerner and @tom80H, here’s a bug I just discovered while playing with the feature a bit:
When you completely remove a music video from its folder and then do a Refresh Metadata on the artist, the video isn’t removed from the Extras row. It now seems to be stuck there forever, impossible to remove.
Of course, if you click on such a file, the following error appears:
In a Movies or TV Shows library, a deleted extra is successfully removed after refreshing the metadata of an item.
Edit:
Yeah, I really can’t remove an extra from a Music library once it has been added. Here goes my hope of using this feature I guess…
@joeymccrea99_gmail_com, be aware of this bug, it’s kind of a showstopper for me as it can get messy very fast. I reverted to a recent db backup, and I guess I’ll continue using the other Movie library I had just for music videos until this bug is fixed.
@OttoKerner and @tom80H, please let me know if you need more info about this.
Edit 2:
I tested a bit more, here are some details:
- It seems to work correctly with a global music videos folder (as instructed here).
- The bug seems to happen specifically with inline videos. When the videos are alongside the music files, it’s impossible to remove an item from the Extras row once it has been added, no matter what.
Have you tried rescanning the library files?
I did. Just like Refresh Metadata, It didn’t have any effect on the music videos that should have disappeared from the Extras.
A refactored music scanner and agent code will be released in the coming weeks.
It will fix the issue with the video not getting removed.
Perfect! Thanks.
