I’ve ripped and transferred 34 of my compilation CDs on Plex.
But surprisingly 15 have been recognized as “Compilation” and 19 have been recognized as “Album” (while they are all various artists compilations):
- 17 Buddha-Bar → Albums
- 1 Flying Carpet → Compilation
- 14 Hôtel Costes → Compilations
- 1 Nirvâna Lounge → Album
- 1 Siddharta → Album
And it affects the way the CDs are presented:
-
all displayed in one go for the albums, with Album name and Year under the cover…
-
in an horizontal scrolling list for the compilations, with Album artist and Album name under the cover…
Same for the mobile apps, like on iOS. The template to present the CDs is also different, in between the Albums one and the Compilations one.
- 4 lines of 3 albums, then need to use “See all” for the albums
- 1 line scrolling for the compilations, then need to use “See all”
So what does trigger this classification into “Album” or “Compilation”?
I’ve not found anything so far ![]()
Thanks!
P.S.: anticipating a remark or question, “no” my compilations are not classified under a “Various artists” catch-all folder. I dislike this concept (not to say I hate). So my compilations are classified by the compilation series name.
- All the “Buddha-Bar” compilations are in a “Buddha-Bar” folder, with “Buddha-Bar” as Album artist
- All the “Hôtel Costes” compilations are in a “Hôtel Costes” folder, with “Hôtel Costes” as Album artist
- Etc.
It works perfectly fine, it’s much more logically organized and so much easier to find what you’re looking for in the music library.
