MVC-3D transcoding?

Hi,

I was wondering if Plex server was able to transcode MVC-3D movies while retaining the 3D ?
I was planning on buying a RPi3 connected to a 3D enabled TV, and sharing my plex library which contains some MVC-3D movies. Since the connexion is not that great, I might have to transcode some of them, but I don’t know if the 3D will be preserved. I’ve scoured the internet for an answer but found nothing.

Thanks for helping !

No. MVC isn’t supported because it’s largely dead technology.

If your player supports it, then you’ll get whatever the player (TV) can do but PMS has no support for it

3D is also dying technology. It was a 2-3 year fad and is no longer offered by the big tv manufacturers

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. So I can play them 3D in direct play if my player supports it, but if I have to transcode it it will switch to 2D? Or it won’t be able to transcode it at all ?

I DirectPlay Pan-3D to the TV. I must manually put the TV in 3D mode.
If you transcode it, you break the 3D markers in the video.

A 3D movie is just a video stream to PMS. It only matters to the TV.

A RPi3 would also never be able to perform this task, if that was your idea. The CPU is much too slow.

Thanks that’s exactly what I needed to know! So no RPi 3 until my connexion can directplay those 3D movies then !

Well, the RPi3 would only have been a client, it was not supposed to do the transcoding part of course
