MX Player no longer selectable as external player

Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173 (Windows)
Player Version#: 8.25.1.28703 (Android)

I used to be able to play all material in MX Player, having set it up as “external player” in the Android app.

Som weeks ago this stopped working, and even with “Use external player” checked I am not able to select MX Player
The only selectable apps are: VLC (suggested as default), Google Photos, Kodi and Total Commander. There used to be several more to choose from.

If I use a file system browser to open Plex’s source files I can still choose to open them in MX Player like before without any problem. However, this workaround obviously bypasses all the nice UI work of Plex.
Unchecking “Use external player” is also not a feasible solution, it fails with “unable to play media” for much of the material I have (server is not strong enough to transcode, but I used to be able to direct stream everything including 4K HDR to MX Player without any problems).

What has happened? How can I fix it?

It seems like the wrong IP address format is being passed from Plex app to the MX player/VLC app. The issue is that the dots in the IP address have been replaced with dashes, i.e. 192.168.1.4 is being passed as 192-168-1-4 and the player cannot open the right network stream.

I don’t see that issue here. VLC opens the file and does as good a job as expected. It is much an inferior player than MX though.
