My dad is able to see and use my PleX account!

A while back I shared my PleX server with my dad, by adding him as a “Home User” (Settings > Plex Home).

I then removed him from this and added him as a normal user (Settings > Manage Library Access), as I didn’t want him to be able to access my account.

Even though I have removed him from being a Home User, he is still able to see and select my account on his devices.

So far I have:

  • Removed him as a Home User
  • Removed him from my library completely (there are now no “Accounts with Library Access”)
  • Changed my password, selecting Sign out connected devices after password change
  • Removed all Authorized Devices

And yet he can still see and access my account.

How can I get this removed, so he can’t see my account anymore?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, what is your Plex username is? (You can send this in private message)

Are you sharing a home network with your father?

@Justina_plex - I’ve DM’d you :slight_smile:

Thanks.

No. The networks are completely separate.

Back when your father was a managed user, you used your own Plex credentials to sign in his devices.
You need to revert this and sign out all his devices. Then sign them in to the new regular plex account you created for him.

We have tried this, even going as far as resetting my password and clicking the Sign out connected devices after password change box.

That should nuke any saved tokens/passwords, surely?

I checked the system and couldn’t see your dad in your Home. However I did see that somehow you are part of his Home at the same time as having your own Home. This should not be possible as a user can be only part of one Home. I will check with the team and get back to you

Oh, weird

Thanks for checking! Look forward to hearing back.

In the meantime, if you have a way, you could check what your dad can see here https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home. If your username is listed, your dad could remove you from Home by hovering over your user and clicking X

Yeah, you’re right. I was showing up in his Plex Home. I walked him through removing me from that, but he could still see my account.

Had him refresh the page and my account was back in his Plex Home.

We did it all through video call, and I saw the confirmation box and him accepting it, so there seems to be an issue where he can’t actually remove me?

That does seem odd. Thanks for more info, I will take this to the team, and will get back to you once I know more

Thank you

@Justina_plex - all of my managed users (kids and wife) have just disappeared. Did somebody remove them from my account?

@Justina_plex - Someone has removed all my managed users, which has also reset everyone’s watch history/progress (I just tried re-adding a profile and it’s like new).

Why was this done?

Hi, we are looking into this, I will let you know when I have more information.

@Justina_plex FYI - the original issue has been resolved. I managed to get my user deleted from my dads home, and my user is no longer showing up.

Thank you for your help with that.

If we could just get the managed user issue sorted, that would be great.

Hello @sim

During normal operation, PMS will create a scheduled backup of it’s database

Do you have such a backup from before the users disappeared?

See: https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/ to find the location of the files

If so, please upload on eof the backup’s in a zip to like dropbox, and DM me the link to it
