My media server thinks there are two of itself

Server Version#: 1.41.5.9522
Player Version#: (problem using any players: usually browser or Roku)

Hi, my Plex Media Server seems to have an identity crisis after Windows forced an update on my server.

The server “puck” will still run Plex Media Server, but anyone logging in sees the same error:

No content available
Check your network connection and verify that any media servers are online.

When I try to access the media from the server itself it shows the error:

puck is currently unavailable
Verify you have a network connection and that the server is online, or see our troubleshooting tips for further assistance.

Checking the settings it appears as though it has record of two servers, both named ‘puck’. Only thing is, one is online (with no media) and the other is presumably my carefully curated media library (screenshot below).

Does anyone have some idea how I can clear this up on my server, or know where this has already been answered? Many settings are over my head and I don’t want to start guess-clicking my way into a deeper hole.

Many many thanks! I gotta get this up by Saturday night (that’s date night with my wife.)

It appears that Plex server was set up 2 times on the same machine, which usually happens if either

  • you did run Plex server with “Run as Administrator”. (never do that!)
  • you have more than one Windows user account on this machine, and you ran Plex server under both

That was it! I couldn’t figure out how I had done so in the first place, but it was the Windows update that borked several things about how I log into that computer. Thanks!!
