Hi all,
I noticed a podcast option in the menu, but it doesn’t seems to look into the directories on my server. Not on the internet. I just want to use plex as my podcast server for me, Like my music. but for podcast.
I hope I make sense.
I have on my NAS a specific Podcast directory, but plex seems to ignore it. It doesn’t read anything.
while I have this for the library :
Server Version#: 1.31.1
Player Version#: 4.102.1

Not sure where this is coming from in your setup… there’s very definitely no podcasts library type and hasn’t been for quite some time (if ever).
What kind of library did you use to create the Podcast library and what kind of format are your files in?
It sounds to me like you’re having some kind of permission issue where Plex can’t see the Podcasts you have stored on your NAS
Resolving permissions problems
This How-To is about finding and resolving permission issues where PMS cannot read the file(s) due to a problem somewhere in the path.
While the process is straight forward (perform ls -la for each directory in the pathname to the file), the process is time consuming and somewhat tedious.
This HowTo provides a basic script which you can use (change from read-test to write-test if needed) and find where user plex loses its permission to get to a specific file.

there was some podcast feature at some point. But it was not to host it was just to subscribe to external RSS feed, I believe.

I simply create a directory with the usual hierarchy
podcast/[name of the podcast]/episodes
a bit like the TV shows one.
The files are mp3
I mean this. What kind of Plex library did you chose? This can cause a problem depending on how you have the files named

I see. I understand. I chose Music.
I know for instance using a video name “episode 1” naming format doesn’t work at all in a movie library. It just doesn’t show up
I don’t really do music but I suspect you’d have to follow the same type of format a regular album would follow to show up properly
Someone with more experience in a music library is going to have to weigh in

Thanks anyway. I’ll try by renaming, and trying different combos to find the best/good way.
Cheers
Just an idea. I would take an actual music album that you know shows up ok and copy it over to where you have the podcasts on your file system
If it doesn’t show up you still might be having a permission issue for that podcast folder on your NAS
Then at least you know before you end up trying 100 different names for your files

That is a great Idea. I’ll try this. Thanks

Tried. I still can’t see a thing.
I checked the permission on the NAS, and they are the same as the video or the music.
I’ll keep investigating.
But thanks for helping narrow things down.

Ill recommend using the same trick I use for audio books:
Show Name == album
Episode number == Track number
Episode title = Track Title
Then set the library up as music, and prefer local metadata, Plex music scanner, Personal Media Artist
