Installed plex mediaserver on a synolgy nas ds216j. Plex creates 2 folders, one is de plexmediaserver folder and the other is for the mediafiles. So i created 2 subfolders beneath plexmedia and give the plexmedia server user read rights. The user which logged in the synology nas has read / write rights.
Problem is: copied mkv files into the shared folders and also created subfolders but they are not seen by Plexserver which i start on the NAS. Strange thing happens: when i put the mkv in the series folder this is not picked up by Plex but when i move the file to the films folder Plex sees the file after refreshing the library films. When i move the mkv file back to the series folder, the media files stays visible in the movies folder although i cannot play the file anymore. The file is only seen once in the films folder and not at all in the sersies folder, no files are seen in the library in the seriers folder only once in the movie folder .
So it looks like Plex is not updating the libray correct. I think the user rights are good, checked it and they are both the same for the series folder and the movie folder.
Synology NAS has the newest operating system and all packages are up to date. Plex server service is several time restarted it changes nothing…
Did you place any of your media in the PlexMediaServer shared folder? If so, move it to a different location. That folder is reserved for use by the Plex Media Server application. If you put your media in the PlexMediaServer folder, Plex will not work correctly.
Also, make sure your files are named and organized according to Plex requirements. If they are not, Plex may have trouble recognizing them.
After any renaming/reorganizing, perform the Plex Dance with the applicable files. This removes any bad matching information from the Plex Media Server database.
Report back if Plex is still not recognizing your files.
Please include a set of server log files with any problem report.
To obtain the log files, go to Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs. This will download a ZIP file to your computer. Attach the entire ZIP file to this thread. You can drag the file into the message window. It will insert at the cursor location.
What movie is this? volume1/Plexmedia/Films/Power Se.5 afl.5.mkv
How is Plex supposed to match b92b41a6ddd64c0fb344334bd0282593.mkv? /volume1/Plexmedia/Series/Fear-the-walking-dead/Seizoen 1/Fear_the_Walking_Dead_S01E01_Pilot_1080p_BluRay_DD5_1_x264-SA89/b92b41a6ddd64c0fb344334bd0282593.mkv
i really did what you told me, you are looking at files that are not there in the library anymore, that where files i started with but after googling the naming convention of Plex i deleted those files.
Now there are 2 files in the library which i have rename to: PowerS5E2 and PowerS5-E2. After rescanning the library and flexdance the library files nothing is showing in the series folder, still empty…
This is what i ment: the library is not updating / refreshing. It still shows in de logging those files…
You are still not following Plex’s naming convention.
As @dbirch mentions, you must put TV shows in TV show libraries for them to be recognized. Also, movies must be in a movie library. Plex does not support mixing movies and TV shows in the same library.
/volume1/Plexmedia/TV Shows <-- Folder added to TV show library (name not important)
.../Power (2014) {tvdb-276562} <-- ShowName (Year); TVDB/TMDB ID optional
....../Season 05 <-- "Season" in English; Two digits for number
........./Power (2014) s05e02.mkv <-- sXXeYY format mandatory
Read and follow Plex’s documentation. Use the links provided above.
Rename your files accordingly
Plex Dance the show after making corrections. This removes any incorrect matching information from the Plex Media Server database.
Tiny Media Manager, mentioned by @dbirch, is a very nice tool, and can help with your renaming. The free version works well, and can help with both movies and TV shows.
I understand what you mean but this can also be doen with metatags and not with filenames. Take for example mp3 files, all is done with tags not with filenames.
So the choice could be: when the filename is not recognised do not get info about it but show the files. Now the files are not showing at all when they have wrong naming format…
Hoping for some help. I’ve got a Synology NAS DS416play. Recently had to change my password so that i could login to my Plex media server (which while annoying wasn’t the end of the world)…just resulted in being logged out of all devices (laptops, mobiles and tvs) and then re-linking them after entering the new password.
However I recently went away for a few days and in that time we had a power outage which obviously shut everything down. Came back and turned it all on again and should be all sweet…Had to do a DSM update for my NAS, and then a server update for Plex but for some reason it now keeps saying that my media server is “unreachable”. I’ve tried the standard turn it off and then on again (for both the NAS and the computer). Also tried uninstalling Plex on the NAS and then reinstalling. Also tried disconnecting from the internet and then reconnecting. Still get unreachable.
I’ve read as many of the forum suggestions as i can and confess that i’m stumped! I’ve also now for some reason got a second server with the same name appearing that says “Available/Nearby” but it’s empty and whenever i tried to add library folders it can’t find anything. Is anyone able to help me out? I’ve attached the server logs for the “second server” that’s empty but it won’t let me access server logs for the “unreachable” one.
