Have you tried the latest Plex server 1.1.4 build?
I Updated the firmware and plex when i got it Friday, so unless a new one was released in the past 2 days, it should be up to date?
I’m on Version 1.1.4.2757-24ffd60
sigh… so I’ve had better luck with the last couple of versions, but I have a trip coming up soon so I decided to update my firmware, PMS and sync up my library yesterday. Back to having lots of unplayable content and “Error seeking in file to offset 2323232323” errors in the PMS log. Probably 80% of my content is now broken… this is so unacceptable Plex!
What version of Plex did you update to? Have you tried to reset the My Passport Pro and install Plex again? I had issues with updating in the past and this step usually fixed most of my issues.
1.5.6.3790
Hopefully a reset of the Passport Pro will resolve your issue. I’ll hold off on updating mine since it seems there might be problems.
Spent the better part of a day trying to fix it, but eventually deleted my Plex DB and re-created my Libraries. I will say, it is processing the libraries a lot faster then the previous versions did, but we are still talking hours here, which is better than days… :#
Would you suggest upgrading? Is the new version that much better than the last?
I have been upgrading hoping it would improve the performance and offline issues with this low-power NAS platform, but this is the second time upgrading Plex has broken playback of most of my movies, so I would avoid upgrading if I was you.
Thanks for the advice. I have mine running pretty good so I may just leave it.
After re-building my libraries last week, and using PMS this weekend (traveling) I can say this was the best offline experience thus far. No offline authentication issues, performance was improved as well. Also interesting, I found using an older Plex client (Original iPad = IOS 5.x = Plex = 3.x) to be a great experience. While I do like the modern Plex UI, the old versions that used a simpler authentication model, seem to be more reliable. Although I have had minimal issues the last few months, I seemed to have non-stop authentication issues in 2016 with all the various Plex updates/changes. Its a good reminder to the Dev team that reliability is 10x more important than new features. New features may attract new customers, but you cannot sustain a user base without reliability. Been using Plex for almost 5 years now and honestly, I rarely use anything outside the original feature set I started with back in 2012.
Hmmm…maybe I’ll bite the bullet and try the update. I like the idea of better performance for sure. I’ll update this thread on my experience.
as long as you know there’s a possibility you might have to re-build your libraries
Fully realize that possibility. I have done it twice during past upgrades. My libraries are pretty easy to re-build…just the time as they are large.
just make sure you test several movies after you upgrade. The first couple I tried worked, but then everything after that was broken. That’s when I had to re-create my libraries.
I was able to successfully perform the update without having to rebuild my library. The only thing I did before doing the update was to ensure all the libraries were up to date and not currently scanning.
Nice, I did not check that before I updated, so that may have been part of my problem. I know when I first setup this device, I had to add the libraries sequentially otherwise they would get corrupted.
Well another vacation and another loss for Plex on this device. Before leaving, I updated the firmware and Plex version (1.12), trimmed my library by about 50% and re-built/indexed everything. I was hoping that might improve the performance since my drive was about 95% full, nope.
More authentication issues with offline-mode and extremely slow response times. Plex did work fairly well when connected to the Hotel’s wifi, but offline mode is a loss. My kids don’t even try to use Plex anymore, they just use the native WD Cloud app, which works great. One other thing issue I don’t remember previously being a problem, Plex Web is essentially disabled in offline mode, saying it cannot connect to the internet…
This device is such a great idea, yet such a horrible implementation, I really hope WD is no longer advertising Plex as a “feature”. The blame goes both ways, 50% to WD for putting such a slow CPU/SOC in this device ($5 more could have 3-4x the performance), 50% to Plex for all the offline issues.
Have you tried disabling secure connection? This should fix the offline authentication issue?
