My Plex Media Server keeps crashing under Mac OS. I use the Mac Mini M4 as my home server, and it’s always running. The current operating system is MacOS Sequoia version 15.6.1.
The display is set to turn off automatically. I’ve disabled sleep mode and the hard drive shutdown feature.
I use a VPN and the Mac OS Firewall, if that’s important. What’s causing it to keep crashing? I’m grateful for any help.
You’ll need to upload your full logs (with Debug, not Verbose, enabled) to see anything useful. These are just the crash uploader logs; they don’t show what the server was doing.
One common issue that can cause a crash is a corrupt database.
Open a terminal window and navigate to /Applications/Plex Media Server/Contents/MacOS/. Then run ./Plex Media Server. This is just like running the server normally, but you should get some output on the command-line. This might be helpful in tracking down the problem.
Thank you very much for the info. I’ve now enabled advanced logging and deactivated the VPN. I also disabled the Smart Routing option in the VPN because that also seems to be causing crashes. As soon as it crashes, I’ll upload the logs.
Hi, I run the same Hardware and OS for a Plex Server
I would strongly suggest to become familiar with the following script to maintain your Database, I would also highly recommend running it on a regular basis. Example: Every 2 to 4 Weeks
Thank you so much for the great help. I repaired the database and cleared the cache. I also disabled VPN Smart Routing because I read that it can also lead to crashes. I also enabled extended logging. It hasn’t crashed for two days since the previous steps. We’ll wait and see if it’s stable now. Otherwise, I’ll get back to you with the logs. Thanks again for the great help.
