My Plex suddenly stopped loading on desktop running windows 10

when I start up my computer (plex should auto-start) plex will not open and I get an error message which I have uploaded a picture here… when I try to manually open plex, I get the same error message. Note: my software is up to date and almost 2 months ago… I moved my plex data off my C drive to an external drive including metadata, backups etc… all has been working fine. One other note… I did receive this email from Plex:
Plex\ 90x29

A new device was used to sign in to your Plex account:

  • Account: SSayer
  • Device: Plex Website
  • Location: Marietta, Georgia, United States (estimated)
  • IP address: 73.43.114.184

and this came after after I could not log in … so I am thinking my log in attempts had something to do with that email alert? I would really appreciate any help or suggests! Thank You, Steve

To summarize:
When you try to start the Plex Media Server on your Windows machine(?) you immediately get that ambiguous error message (title: “Error”, message: “Error”).

The e-mail should only indicate that you / your account attempted to open the Plex Web app (http://app.plex.tv/desktop) from somewhere in or around Marietta, GA. That’s not related to the error.

As for the error… can you manually collect your Plex Media Server logs, zip them and share them here?

really appreciate your help/response … here is a link to my logs:

Looks like this server is running quite fine. There’s some errors but none of them have killed/stopped the server. Given you had enabled “verbose logging”, your logs do however only cover today’s activities.

There had been a crash last Wednesday.

Are you getting any error messages when opening the bundled version of Plex Web?
e.g. by browsing to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same machine as your PMS; http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web otherwise.
According to the logs you already successfully did that from that very same device using Chrome 87 earlier today. It looks however like the web app has some issue connecting to Plex’ backend (e.g. required to identify/authorize your account; connection is being refused).

I tried your link on my server… get a message:

This site can’t be reached

127.0.0.1 refused to connect.

Try:

  • Checking the connection
  • Checking the proxy and the firewall

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

any ideas?

Are you on the same machine as the PMS?
You should be able to use http://localhost:32400/web instead. If your Plex Media Server is configured to require secure connections, use https instead of http.

Hi Tom… I am not sure what happened but last night when my plex app on my desktop server would not open … I could not get a connection (secure or unsecured if necessary as I have chosen)… and yes on the same machine… after reading many forum posts related to this problem and trying some of the suggestions … I was ready to give up for the night… after shutting down for the night it dawned on me… what about “Restore Point”? So I turned the computer back on and chose a restore point from 5 days past and loaded. That worked and plex app opened however, I could not open the localhost:32400/web and when I opened the web app I had no access to server control/options in plex settings so I couldn’t check settings. But Plex was working and on all my client devices. NOW… this morning everything was back to “normal” … I could log into the localhost:32400/web and had full access to server settings… I think I can contribute that to the 2 - 5 am backup and updates that Plex runs??? I am still scratching my head as to what suddenly caused this… and I am thankful that I had restore points… any thoughts and or ideas on your end? I truly appreciate your help and input! Steve
