I just installed plex again after years of not using it, but my media server won’t open. It’s opened in the tray but when I click on open, it opens the plex app in my browser (where it says I need to download the media server app when I click on your media). I tried deleting and downloading the app and media server, but it didn’t help.
What happens when you visit http://127.0.0.1:32400/web on the server?
When I click on your link, I can’t connect to the server. I can connect through the app and on the plex website though.
What happens when you click on %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Setup Plex.html
It says “Something went wrong. Make sure the server is available and try again.”. I’ve tried to do this while media server is open (at least in my tray) and while it’s closed.
Can you grab your server logs and post the zip?
Logs plex.zip (297.4 KB)
here you go, also thanks already for your help!
@sa2000 any ideas we are seeing a spike in this type of issue recently.
Is u2z5g another plex account you use ?
The server is owned by that user account and to access it, your Plex Web app needs to login and authenticate to that account
I don’t think that’s my account. I did have another account a couple of years back, but it was on a different laptop than the one I’m using now. I’ve logged into that old account and tried to open media server with that account, but I’ve got the same issue.
Is there a way to delete u2z5g from the server? Or can you tell me the email address it’s coupled with?
I will send you a private message with the details
I’m having a similar problem.
My Plex account is active and I can get to it (using Firefox).
I downloaded and installed the MacOS Media Server, unzipped it, moved it to Applications, double-clicked it.
In the DOC, the Plex Media Server app briefly activates (gets a DOT under the app icon), which then goes away. No “>” icon appears in the menu bar. The promised Setup Wizard does not run.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Locate the server logs and copy the files out, zip and attach
See this article for information on where the server logs are
Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support
rellimbor-mediaLOGS.zip (8.3 KB)
Logs attached. Thanks for your help.
There are database errors. My guess is that you were using Plex Media Server many years ago and now installed the current version and there was a problem with migrating data from a very very old server version.
The last registered Plex Media Server for your account is version 0.9.11.4.739-A4E710 which goes back to November 2014
I would suggest you delete the current installation and start afresh
Go through these steps
Uninstall Plex Media Server | Plex Support
and then restart the system and download and install the current version
That fixed it. THANK YOU!
