A while back, I created a second Plex server with a different Plex.tv account. Somehow this account became the admin on my primary Plex server. I deleted that second Plex.tv account and now my PMS doesn’t have an admin at all!
I followed the instructions in this post. I still have no admin after deleting the registry keys and claiming the server.
Where do I go from here? What other info can I provide to help troubleshoot?
Thanks,
Jeff
Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Have you tried to access your server using the addressIP:32400/web…
Indeed I have. Here’s what I’m trying:
-
I delete the 4 registry entries
-
Open up Chrome and launch Plex with my 127.0.0.1 address
-
Go to any of my libraries, it asks me to claim the server
-
I claim it, then go to Users & Sharing. My Plex.tv account is a Home User (it always was) but not an admin.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Try a different browser, wondering if that page was cached…
what are you hiding in your screenshot? Your username? We can see it here. is that some other account?
Yes, that was silly of me. Force of habit! Here’s my unredacted screenshot.
@nydave69: I logged in with Edge. No difference.
I just installed a SQL Lite editor in case I need to edit the DB to get this working.
Hi. I think, at some point you have created a “Plex Home”. https://support.plex.tv/articles/204234313-example-plex-home-setup/
My brother did this and invited me. He became the admin of my plex server until I left his “Home”
I would check if you can still “switch user” to the other account and delete MaxAbider from the Home.
If you deleted that account… idk,.,. good luck. Plex security is weird, to me.
Did you delete a second account you were in the home with?
Yes. Here’s the timeline:
- MaxAbider was admin and the only user in Plex Home
- I set up a new server with a separate account (BackupTaco). Somehow, this user became admin on my original server. Home Users had MaxAbider (normal home user) and BackupTaco (admin).
- In attempting to restore MaxAbider’s role as admin, I deleted BackupTaco Plex.tv account. That got it out of Plex Home but now I have no admin!
- I tried the steps to reclaim my server but MaxAbider is still not an admin. And now you’re caught up!
Thanks for your help.
Both the other user and the other Plex server are gone forever, unfortunately.
At this point I think @OttoKerner should have a look and see what he could suggest.
As far as I can see, the user MaxAbider is not part of a Plex Home.
Try this, as a verification: open your web browser in ‘incognito’/‘private’ mode.
open app.plex.tv
Go to the Users & Sharing page and look for the crown on your user name.
If it’s still not there, I’ll forward the issue to a technician who’ll look into it.
Here’s a screenshot in Incognito. I’m calling MaxAbider a “Plex Home User” because it appears in the “Home Users” section. Maybe I’m using the term incorrectly, though.
Just so I’m certain, the crown indicates an Admin user and there can only be one crowned user per PMS instance, correct?
That’s the best news I heard all week. Thanks!
I’ll post the solution here.
What is the trouble, actually?
What symptoms are you experiencing, which make you look into this?
I’m trying to add additional Plex.tv users as Plex Home Users (a.k.a. managed users?). Without an admin account, I don’t have that option.
Can you click on your avatar to the right, then “switch user”? Do you get a list of users or does it ask to enter your PIN? If you are asked to select a user, can you provide a screenshot of that screen?
Switch User goes straight to asking for MaxAbider’s PIN.
I did get the user selection screen until I deleted the admin account- BackupTaco. In that screen, I believe I had the Manage Users option.
Thanks for you help.
@anon18523487: Is there anything else you need from me? I’d really love to solve this problem.
“BackupTaco” account. I can find an account where you named the server that but the username was not that. That account was restored and one of our back end devs removed you from his home.
Can you please take a screenshot of what you see now
