My server does not update added files anymore and more

No, I left the installation standard, but I can not explain why I have these two entries in my registry and while I’m writing this it is counting the contents of that folder and it is larger than my media %appdata% folder. So, that’s why I’m puzzled about it.

Could it have been a copy of %appdata% folder? but then again, why are there entries still in it up to date, according to the date stamps, and why is it larger? If it were older than it should be smaller, right?

LocalAppDataPath can only be there, because you once put it there.
(Or you edited the database location preference within Plex a long, long time ago when it was still there [it got removed years ago due to security concerns]).

If LocalAppDataPath”=“E:\Program Files\W2012\PLEX\” is in the registry of your old server, it means you must treat E:\Program Files\W2012\PLEX\ as the location of your plex data folder.
Do NOT copy anything from the default location on drive C:. It’s no use. Your Plex data are on E:

Shall I post my registry file here, so you can look at it? or is that a security risk?

Don’t. It contains your plex token (which can be used to steal your plex account) and some other personal data.

Yeah, I figured. I also looked at %APPDATA% on the 2012 server, and the folders and content are all from 2021, so I think I can delete it from the 2019 server and copy the W2012\plex etc folder over to the 2019 server… I did not look properly at the dates…

Or better, maybe, point the registry on the new server towards the old volume where the media is too???

That wholly depends on the machine and the size of your media collection.
If your collection is particularly big, I recommend a performant SSD for the plex data folder. (The media files themselves are very much sufficiently housed on conventional hard drives.)

When I built my server, I put 3 SSDs in it.
one for Windows
one for the Plex data folder
one for the transcoder temporary folder (because using RAM drive puts too many restrictions on functionality).
But that is just me being a bit crazy.

Well, the 2019 server is a HP proliant tower that has one raid 5 with 4*4Tb SATA hard drives for storage and a mirror for the system C drive. I think that it does not have any place more on the motherboard for another drive and USB hooking up to it is also not a good idea, too slow. So, my 1 Gb network should be able to handle this traffic, until I’m rich enough to buy 2.5 Gb network cards for both my servers… (and switches, a couple of them…)

In case of a HD crash, I monitor both RAID drives on both servers regularly and have two NAS spares lying ready, just in case… Can’t have a single drive to put all data on, out of the question.

If there is one or more free PCIe slots in there, you can stick an adapter card into it which can take from 1 up to ~4 NVMe SSD modules. Unless the mainboard BIOS is blocking “foreign” (i.e. not from HP) components that is.

Doing a mirror once a month to a backup drive ought to be sufficient in my opinion. At least for the Plex data folder. These data are not life-threatening critical, if they are one month stale if I ever have to restore them from the backup.
And RAID is not a backup anyway, so a safety copy of the actual media ought to exist someplace else as well.

That is a good idea, something to look out for

That is actually a good idea, I did not think about that, and the concerns about my media, is well appreciated, I have a 6 drive NAS only functioning as a backup device and your advise also about copying it once every now and then is also not a bad idea…But the media is more important…
Thanks so far for helping me out, much appreciated. I now go fire it up and see if I run into problems…

During copy it found corrupt files… I’ll let you know how things go… Sad yes, but it can be rebuild and the subtitles? ah well, I can either find them again if needed or turn the volume up…

It is repairing now the drive, no hardware faults but software faults. I must have made a mistake then… Worst case scenario is remove the folder, the entries in registry and hope Plex will start asking where media is… We’ll see…

Well, I restarted the server, and still unable to read the database…
I’m gonna look for faults…

Strange that I could not find the path of the media, except music, but I managed to start a few exe files that I know that are running in the background and finally the mediaserver, then it started to update…
Now changing /adding the other media and let the database do its work - upgrading etc…

Hope this all goes well…

I found that more than half of my libraries were gone, so I added a few yesterday and this morning the rest. The server is in high gear all this time to get the library up to date…
(About 50% of the CPU’s utilization)
Doesn’t matter, as long as everything is available again, then I’m ok with that…
@OttoKerner , thanks again for helping…
I was wondering if a NAS can be registered from the info in the registry, because I do not know where my plexpass code is right now…(except in registry file)

Your Plex pass is connected to your plex.tv user login.
As long as you claim your server with the same login as before, you will get the PP benefits.

That is very curious. Copying the whole Plex data folder should have brought them all in over to the new server.
Ate you certain that the database is not damaged?

As I wrote a few posts back [It is repairing now the drive, no hardware faults but software faults. I must have made a mistake then… Worst case scenario is remove the folder, the entries in registry and hope Plex will start asking where media is… We’ll see… ]
The database was damaged but I repaired it with a chkdsk (not the hard drive but the files were broken).

I have a big number of Pink Floyd material in my possession, and before I only saw in Plex the names of the folders, switching view does not give the whole content. There are a total of 55 files 36 folders and 19 single mp3 files which earlier worked normal.
I still am wondering why I only see 22 albums, 4 extra’s (video) and one Single/EP (early material of The Pink Floyd)
Weird. Can you explain this or is it because of still scanning (the server is now since moving constantly loud scanning (the fans of the server) noise, telling me ‘I’m busy’

You could subscribe to the forum thread where Plex announces them.

The amount of subscriptions a regular person has, outweigh a normal library. I tend to travel light, and when the time comes, I act. Maybe not the best, but how about let Plex make a signal to the user that there is a new update, and if you read the whole post, I had my PMS running on old software, I knew that.
But thanks for listening and reacting.

It does this. But not in your case because all the newer versions were not able to run on Windows 8.
