I am facing the same issue on my movies… well I think I am. Newcomer to all of this, I just did a clean install on my Synology. All my video files are tagged and named properly, using Subler on my mac (which relies on TheMovieDB). I would like for my Plex clients to display the cover art and info found in my files, but for now all I’m getting is snapshots from the movies.
Going to Settings>Server>Agents>Movies, I get the Personal Media and Freebase sub categories. Neither show a “Local Media Assets” choice…
I too had the same problem with PlexMediaServer-1.0.3.2461-35f0caa-x86.spk after rebuilding the entire library again. As posted elsewhere in the forums, there are major problems with the scanner when analysing files.
I did notice the scanner was running multiple processes on the exact same file when analysing files which could be the cause of CPU running at 100%, not downloading metadata from thetvdb.com, and connectivity slowed to a grinding halt. At this point, after stopping and re-staring Plex (to get the Synology responding again) the Local Media Assets (TV) agent is removed. I uninstalled, deleted the library database and re-installed from scratch 3 times, all with the same result.
To get the agent back, I uninstalled everything, deleted the library database, and I downgraded to Plex version 0.9.16.3.1840-cece46d from the Community, the Local Media Assets (TV) agent has returned, scanned all my files without a problem. (Note: Simply re-installing Plex did not restore the agent, I had to entirely delete the library database each time)
Now I have just upgraded to the latest PlexMediaServer-1.1.3.2700-6f64a8d-x86.spk and the Local Media Assets (TV) agent is missing!
Strangely enough, after a scan and the cover artwork caching correctly i.e. the dashboard loading without a problem and all artwork appearing instantly on either Movies or TV libraries, with PlexMediaServer-1.1.3.2700-6f64a8d-x86.spk… the Local Media Assets (TV) agent has returned!
I’m not sure why it appeared missing an hour ago on my last post.
The Local Media Assets (TV) disappear (I think, usually after a crash). It will stay missing for a while. Even after plex restart and computer reboot. And after a couple of days the local media asset will return. Not sure what trigger its return.
