I’ve changed my username on the forum because it was too close with my real name. I signed off my apps and the old username came back. How long will it take for the change to sync with the apps?

When I go to the app to change the username, it says the name is already taken. Why is it not syncing?

Taken by me. I wish I didn’t change it on the forum but from the app itself. I logged out but when I signed back it, the old name came back. When I try to change the name in the app, it does check online to tell me the name is already taken. Why doesn’t it see that I have changed the name?

That shouldn’t be a problem we have to deal with. I changed my name for security reason. It was still too close to my real name.

If you only change your username in the forums, the change will only happen in the forums. The username of your Plex account as such is not affected by this.
Isn’t that what you are mainly concerned with? To use a different nickname in the forums?
This was made possible by user request. That way you can use our forums without revealing your actual Plex account name.

If you want to change the username of your Plex account (so that you are appearing in your Plex apps under a different name), you will have to change it here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account

However, in both cases (i.e. forum and Plex username) the username must be globally unique. Because you can use it to sign into your plex account.
So you may end up with a username which is not pretty, because it was made unique by adding special characters and/or numbers into it.

If there is already a Plex account with the username you want to use, you cannot simply take it. Because it might belong to someone else.
If you are convinced that this is in fact your account, you will have to find the login password for this account, log into it, and erase it.
Then you can switch your current plex account to this username, after you waited one month.

I wanted to change it in the forum for security reason and I also wanted to change it on the Plex app because Nvidia TV doesn’t recognize a character in the username. It displays the username very bad.

I can’t tell the app the new username is me.
