Logged into my plex account today and notice that my user id has changed slightly from what it previously was set to. I attempted to change it back to the original ID and got the error “Username has already been taken”.

I got one of these notices by email, but I already had a username. And when I logged in to look, the old name, not the new name, is what’s shown on my account. Weird…
Double-check the exact e-mail address to which this notice was sent.
There’s been more than one occurrences where users had created multiple Plex accounts over time and forgotten about those old ones (which now also got a unique username).
Definitely the same email. Not sure if you can have two accounts tied to the same email?
No. But if your account already had an account name, it should not have been touched.
Though your e-mail account could have different aliases; somebody recently posted how gmail considers mail addresses with different punctuation to be different handles for the same account (e.g. firstname.lastname@gmail.com vs. firstnamelastname@gmail.com vs. f.i.r.s.t.n.a.m.e.l.a.s.t.n.a.m.e@gmail.com)
MY Username BEFORE was just AKEDO … NOT my Email… it was Changed Without MY Consent to AKE6??? THEN, Apparently MY Username was GIVEN to SOMEONE ELSE! I have used the same Name for all my Socials for Over 25 years… Seriously NOT COOL.

Particularly, which letters are at the beginning of this address.
I was worried that my account was compromised, and quickly reset/changed my login. Seems a pretty basic thing to finally decide to want to implement - usernames
I’ve had a username since I first signed onto Plex. I don’t really remember how long ago that was but I’ve had a Plex Pass for about 6 years. Editing the post for clarity. I was not impacted by the username change. But upon rereading my post, that wasn’t clear. I always had a username so the change didn’t apply to me.
Please inspect the To: field in the email header closely. The username of the account which you are appear to be using nowadays was not affected.
Very likely you have had an additional Plex account created at some point in the past, but haven’t used it.
