Does Plex even use the poster to get the right info ?

If you place an image using the correct naming schema alongside your movie file, Plex should find that when you add the movie. If it’s used will depend on your library configuration and what agent you’re using for your library.
No, Plex won’t look at the poster image and read the name of the director or the top-billed cast from it.
