Plex and auto choosing poster

I’m pretty new to Plex so bare with me. I have worked out a naming convention for Plex leveraging FileBot. My file name looks like this.

Death Proof (2007) [eng] [1080p] [imdb-tt1028528].mp4

My problem is that I have set everything up as others have stated in regards to the scanning Agent but the most viable poster in my opinion is not chosen. Instead a poster for some movies is chosen that is a screen capture from the movie. This only happens with some movies not all.

For instance, looking at Death Proof in my library below it chose the first poster which is a screen cap from the movie. Any way to default to a real poster as I would call it?

I don’t know if this would cause the issue with the poster, but one thing you should know: Anything within square brackets in the folder/filename is ignored by Plex when cataloging the movie. That’s the correct way to have the language and resolution specified, but the imdb-tt number should be in curly braces {imdb-tt1028528}. This may be affecting Plex’s ability to match the movie with the online database, which in turn might be causing the poster issue. Try fixing that and refreshing metadata to see if it fixes anything.

Your file likely has an embedded “cover” image - if you don’t want these to be used then disable “Use local assets” in the Advanced section when editing the library. Then refresh the metadata for the item.

I will try this. I tried @beckfield solution and it worked on first import but if I refresh metadata on the library it reverted back. I will let you know if this works out.

This looks to have worked. Thanks!
