Naming - External Subtitles

Hi!

I recently noticed that some of my movies doesn’t play the external srt subtitles. I made sure that the srt file and the movie file are in a separate folder and it had the same exact name of the movie file. I initially though it was version 1.0 so I downgraded to 0.9.17 and 0.9.16.x which had the same issue.

However, I am sure that I never had this issue before with the older version. I just can’t remember when or what version it started.

So I found out how to fix it but it caused another annoying issue.

I found out that if you name your movies with (2016) or (2015) or (2014) etc … the external subtitle won’t play.

Example:

Folder name: Warcraft (2016)

Inside this folder I have Warcraft (2016).mkv and an srt file Warcraft (2016).srt - notice there is a space between warcraft and (2016).

If I simply name it Warcraft.mkv and Warcraft.srt it works! However, the new issue with remove the year is that Plex doesn’t know what that movie is and just giving a generic thumbnail (its not getting it from the online movie database). Or sometimes it picks up the really OLD movies instead of the latest one.

Is there a way to make the external subtitles work without removing the year in the naming?

Thanks!

EDIT: I have about 100+ movies in my database and since I never really had this issue before … it is a big hassle to rename EVERYTHING removing the year :frowning:

Are you using any non-standard scanners or metadata agents?
Can you show the whole folder structure of your library? Do you use intermediate folders between the library root folder and the movie folder (like ‘genre’ or something else)?

Naming films and subtitles with years works fine for me, but I’ve followed the naming requirements and included the language code. For example, Warcraft (2016).mkv and Warcraft (2016).en.srt

Thank actually worked!! Amazing! Still need rename a bunch of them though … but at least it will still keep the actually movie details instead of thumbnails
