I have an anime that has 2 seasons, though they both have different names. The plex server, no matter how I try to name it, combines the 2 as one show in one season. I have tried separating them into 2 different folders, each having their own anime name and years on the folders and on the anime episodes. I have put them under the same anime name but under seasons. I have tried putting them labeled under the different names in the same base folder. I have tried deleting the metadata and readding it. What’s even more weird about it, the server GUI doesn’t show a way to split them and doesn’t have the multiple episode stack in the upper left hand corner, but the ps5 does show it. I do see in the edit on the server that the files are together. I do see the second series as a naming option when I tried deleting and readding the metadata to the first season.
The show is “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex”. The second season is called “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig”. Both are choices when I choose “Fix Match”, but I can’t even split them apart to try and force one to be “2nd Gig”.
Those are not independent shows but 2 seasons of the same show.
You can e.g. name them like this:
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (2002)
Season 01
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (2002) - s01e01.ext
...
Season 02
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (2002) - s01e01.ext
...
Where .ext is the file extension.
The “Plex TV Series” agent can download the season titles (if available) and will name the seasons accordingly (1st GiG / 2nd GiG).
Here’s an example how this will show in Plex.
Your fix did work, I was able to get it to finally show by changing season 2’s file name to s2e1 (which I have not had to do with any other of my many tv shows, usually just adding a “season 2” folder works). I appreciate the info.
Though this still leaves the question: How come I can’t split these files anymore and how come the obvious “there are 2 versions” gone? I had issues before where I couldn’t get the labeling to work and the easiest fix was to force split them and then match each split. I had a sports event that was different years but the same name and even with different years labeled on it, they were still coming up on my plex as the same. The only fix was to split them. I have this same sporting event coming up soon and am worried I will have this same issue with no fix now.
