Naming of movies and search by filename

I have two feature requests which I think will improve Plex. First, when matching foreign films, even if the filename is the English title, Plex will typically find the movie but change the title to the foreign title, making it hard to find. Example: Cold Prey (2006).mkv is show as Fritt Vilt (original movie title) in Plex, which made it hard to find. I would prefer that Plex recognize this, and have an option to use the filename as the title instead of the foreign film name.

Second, we need the ability to search by filename. I know I’ve been told over and over that Plex finds all of the properly name files, etc., but there are still mistakes made. And some movies never appear despite full scans and I have to do the Plex dance (and I’ve been told that this is no longer necessary with the latest scanner, but it does still happen!). Example, The Amazing Spider-man never appeared. I had to move the file out, then back in to get Plex to see it. If a movie can’t be found, I’d like to be able to search by filename/partial filename so that I can see if it was just a bad match or if it never was picked up. [mod-edit: duplicate; see below]

No, Plex won’t do that by default.
It will only do that in 2 cases:

  1. your file has embedded meta tags which contain the original title and you have told Plex to “prefer embedded metadata”
  2. you have told Plex to use the original title in the properties of your movie library

In all other cases, after identifying (“matching”) the movie Plex will try to find the localized title of the movie, depending on the “language” setting of your movie library.

I think that’s a good idea and it could help in quite a few various cases.
However, you have already posted this as a feature suggestion: Search by filename
