New Plex Movie agent gets wrong title if it’s non-English(latin) movie

New Plex Movie agent seems that it gets wrong title when movie is non-English movie. Sometimes it doesn’t get right title and displays filename instead of movie name. Sometimes it gets romanization title(one of alternative titles) and it’s useless.

If I choose Plex Movie(Legacy) or The Movie Database agent, there’s no problem.

I posted this 1 year ago, but nothing changed.
If your skill isn’t able to fix this problem, I’ll use Plex Movie(Legacy). Why do you keep bugging me to change to ‘Plex Movie’ by showing ‘Upgrade Library’ icon? It’s annoying.

You should fix it or shouldn’t bug user to use new Plex Movie agent.

1. Is the file in mp4 or m4v format?
2. Which language is selected for the library?
3. Is “Use original titles” enabled or disabled?
4. Which movie is it? Can you find it on TheMovieDB.org ?

1. It happens mp4, mkv, regardless of extensions.
2. Korean.
3. Of course, enabled.
4. Every movies(7-8) with problems exist on TheMovieDatabase.

You can find my previous topic and history I posted 1 year ago. I communicated with your staff and they realized there’s some problem. But there wasn’t any follow up actions and topic was closed.

I’ll give you an example.

Following filename is Oscar winning movie ‘Parasite’.
‘Parasite.2019.720p.WEBRip.x264-MkvCage.com.mkv’

If I get metadata with ‘Plex Movie’, title is ‘Gisaengchung’. It’s not Korean.
It should be ‘기생충’. Other data is ok. Title is the problem.
I don’t know where this title is coming from.
If I set with ‘Plex Movie(Legacy)’ or ‘MovieDatabase’, no problem.

You can test it by naming any file with upper filename.

weird naming. TmDb uses: Parasite (2019)
I suggest you do the same. (or course you can keep the 720p, webrip, x64 etc like:
Parasite (2019) - WEBDL-720p x264 - mkvcage.mkv
Should help Plex figure out which one of the Parasite movies you have (there are a lot of them)

Filename was recognized as a URL. I edited.

Filename has no problem. It gets metadata for the correct movie. Only title is incorrect by ‘Plex Movie’ agent.

No more response? If you can’t fix this problem, stop pushing me to use faulty agent by showing notification. It’s been years.

Edit: For the title, the key setting is Use original titles. With that selected, Plex displays the title in Korean, even if the library language is set to English.

Also, after refreshing the metadata, change to another library then back. That forces Plex to reload the page. Plex Web would not otherwise display the updated information.

Plex displays the name and other information in Korean on my system.

I’m using the Plex Movie scanner & agent. If you change the scanner/agent for the library, refresh the library metadata so Plex will pick up the changes.

It might help to Plex Dance the movie as well.

Thanks for your reply. I check for ‘Use original titles’ and it worked.

But when I searched the data with ‘Fix Match’, it still shows incorrect title in the search result like following.

If I choose that incorrect title, final result gets correct title like your screenshot.

But another problem occurred.

Movie file name is ‘Jurassic.World.3.Dominion.2022.1080p.WEBRip.x264-RARBG.mp4’
When I search this file by ‘Fix Match’, it shows correct Korean title in the search list.

When I choose that item, it shows English title in the movie list.

Same goes with ‘Thor.Love.And.Thunder.2022.1080p.WEBRip.x264.AAC5.1-[YTS.MX].mp4’. It shows Korean title in the search list but finally gets English title.

I think all English title movies are going to have same results.

This isn’t what I want. What I want is to get all Korean title whether original title is Korean or not, if Korean title exist in TMDB.

The MP4 file might simply have the English title stored in its embedded meta tags.
Make sure that you don’t have “Prefer embedded metadata” enabled.

The majority of our translations for movies comes from IMDb and they only seem to support Romanised Korean titles at present (‎Korean title, invalid character | IMDb Community Forums).

The Original Title we seem to be pulling from TheMovieDatabase for Parasite, but setting that option enabled globally will not work as intended as any non-Korean titles will show up in their original language.

So at present there doesn’t appear to be a one-click way to resolve this, you would have to manually edit the titles or revert back to using the legacy TMDB agent.

I will discuss this with our team and see if we can’t figure out something better here.
