All my tv shows are named using naming convention for Kodi (the show - s01e01e02e03e04). I am working on renaming them so plex can see them properly (the show - s01e01-e04). Issue I am hitting is some of them have specials (s00) in same file (show - s01e01e02e03e04 - s00e01). How do I name the file so multiple seasons in same file are picked up?
It is not possible. You cannot have files which cross the season boundary in Plex.
I recommend you to split your files.
Only then all the features related to tv shows work correctly.
Well…phooey!!! Unfortunately these tv shows (mkv compressed from DVD) are pulled in with the specials part of the file. Without separating, only other option I know is to rename and append special as extra episode onto existing season. Thus “s01e01e02e03e04 - s00e01” would become “s01e01-e05”.
phooey…phooey…phooey…
Thanks OttoKerner. While not the answer I had hoped, you confirmed what I was afraid of. Much appreciated.
I will look at the tool you referenced. That may be best way instead of added extra episodes under wrong season. Just do not look forward to doing so across all my collection. But maybe just have to do it and cry only once…
If you rip from DVD, I am pretty sure that if done right, you can use at least the chapter markers from the original disc to define the ‘split’ points.
You can modify the procedure I linked very easily to split at chapter markers, instead of time stamps.
