TV Shows naming file

Hello,

  1. How do you properly name a TV Show where they combined two episodes into one file?

So for example:

Planet season 01 episode 1 & 2
Planet - s01e01.mkv (only one file for two episdodes)

  1. I have a TV Show where there are special episodes but have no episodes numbering to them such as:

a) Planet “The best of Planet” season09 (special #1 with no episodes number)
b) Planet “My Favorites” season 09 (special #2 with no episodes number)

  1. I don’t suppose there is a way to show extras along the list of episodes is there?

I followed those two guides, it doesn’t really work.

For multi-episodes, I did this:
/TV Shows
/Heroes
/Season 02
Heroes - s02e05-e07.mkv

But on Plex, it shows:

Heroes
Jump (1) Jump (2) Jump (3)
episode 5 episode 6 episode 7

Plex shows three separate episodes but when you play them, they are all the same video file. It’s repeating the file and not combining it.

What Plex needs to show is something like this:

Heroes
Jump (3)
Episode 5, 6 & 7

All three episodes combined into one just like the original.

At this moment, Plex can’t seem to make this happen.

As for the specials, I named it
/TV Shows
/Heroes
/Specials
Heroes - s00e02 - Countdown to Season 3.mkv

But on Plex, it shows “Heroes episode 02” instead of “Heroes - Countdown to Season 3”. The name of the episode wasn’t captured.

Regarding multi-episode files, you are better off splitting them into individual episodes.

From the Naming Series & Season… document linked by flow (emphasis added):

Note: Multi-episode files will show up individually in Plex apps when viewing your library, but playing any of the represented episodes will play the full file. If you want episodes to behave truly independently, you’re best off using a tool to split the file into individual episodes.

Regarding the extras/specials:

All information in the file name after sxxeyy is considered optional and ignored by Plex. This is true for any episode, not just specials.

Plex uses TheTVDB for episode names, including specials.

The list of Specials for Heroes is here.

There is no s00e02 episode listed, which is why Plex shows it with a generic “Episode 2.”

As per TheTVDB, Countdown to Season 3 is s00e56.

Rename the file to Heroes - s00e56.mkv or Heroes - s00e56 - Countdown to Season 3.mkv and rescan the library. Plex should then correctly list the episode.
