I have a problem with Plex and my new NAS the DSM218+. I’m not very good with all that so I’ll try to explain the problem to my best as english isn’t my first language
I installed Plex on my NAS from the link I found on the forum so it’s the 64bit version I think. I have Plex Pass and I checked the box for hardware accelerated streaming. Even though I did all that, my 4k Movies are still lagging A LOT. I tried to Optimize For TV and then the movie (incredibles 2) worked just fine at 8,8mbs 4K… but I deleted the optimized version a few minutes after and it still worked… I’m so confused. That movie was lagging a lot yesterday. It is a 8,51 GO mp4 video.
I’m still trying with another 4k movie, Rogue One, but this one is 46 GO mp4 and it lags a lot.
There is a screenshot of the log while playing Rogue One. I have absolutely no idea if this might help someone. I read a lot on the forum, but didn’t find a way to correct the situation.
By the way, I’m streaming on a Panasonic TC65EX750 TV. The plex app is directly in the smart TV.
I don’t know if this might help you… That is actually the file infos. I haven’t done anything to the file. No processing. I downloaded it, upload it to my Plex library and tried to stream it on my TV. When I start the streaming, my NAS CPU goes to 96-98% of its capacity.
By the way, thanks a lot I do appreciate the time you take to help me.
Your DS218+ is not going to be able to transcode 4K content very well. For hardware acceleration, it can only decode. Encoding still requires the CPU and the Celeron processor just isn’t powerful enough.
A few words of thought, if there are subtitles in the file it cause Plex to transcode the file to insert the subtitles into the steam. In addition looking at what is supported for 4k (https://support.plex.tv/articles/203810286-what-media-formats-are-supported/), I don’t see Panasonic on the list. Plex is trying to convert it down to 1080p so your TV can play it back, defeating the purpose of having a 4k file.
Hi Trumpy81,
There are the 2 documents you asked for. The file was playing for 2-3 seconds then stoped for 3-4 seconds on and off again. I tried it on my iPhone just for fun and it worked just fine. I just don’t understand anything from now. lol
Is there a way to remove the subtitles from the file so there’s no transcoding ? And I saw panasonic on the list it’s just before Samsung. It’s for the 2014 and newer and my TV is a 2017.
I see a couple paid utilities out there but I haven’t tried to use them.
The list I saw shows the following:
Does Plex support 4K?
When possible. We currently support 4K on the TiVo Roamio & Bolt (Series 6) devices, supported 2016 or newer Tizen-based Samsung models, as well as VIZIO televisions.
